Alberta - Icefields - Part 1
The massive part of this glacier is on the other side of that ridge. This is the first glacier that I have seen - I hope to see many more. The retreating "tongue" is melting some 20-30 feet per year. It is about 60 feet thick at the base, where we could see it. There is an excellent information center at this location and I highly recommend you stopping to take a look. There is no charge for this, but you can take a ride out on the glacier for a fee. We decided to pass on that one. Because we walk out on an different glacier later on.
