Namibia - Catamaran Tour - Part 3

Pelican's are funny awkward birds - wing spans of 6' or more. Very hard to capture dolphin on a digital camera, but we did see quite a few - really! The big boy in the middle there is a sea lion bull that is scouting out the beach looking for a harem to claim. He has a bit of a wait the ladies will not be ready until sometime toward the end of November and he will probably not be able to go out and feed because he has to protect his turf. He is going to be a busy busy boy! The lighthouse is now about 2 miles from the end of the peninsula. The currents and winds keep putting the sand in the water and currents keep taking it and depositing it on the end of the peninsula. Adding approx. 20' per year. So now they have a portable beacon that come and is moved annually.

Namibia - Catamaran Tour - Part 1

I was very excited when Scott said he wanted to take the day and come with me on the Marine "big five" tour. Fortunately the project was going well and Scott could join me. The weather did not cooperate, but then again, you can't do anything about it, so just endure it and have some fun. We had a great time. A 3 year old sea lion decided to join us for a bit of breakfast. Along with a couple hundred thousand in the total colony on the Walvis Bay peninsula. You have never seen anything like it - or heard it either. I felt like I was part of a National Geographic documentary. The "marine big five" are dolphins (2 types), leatherback tortuios, mola mola (sunfish), sea lions and whales, we only saw 2 of the five, but it was a wonderful trip just the same. Great tour guide - Marco - their "snacks" consisted of Champagne, oysters, calamari, oysters rockafeller, and much much more - it was a feast. Well worth the time and money - highly recommend.

Namibia - Scott Negotiating

Scott does a great job with his negotiating skills - most of the time he gets his price and the rest he has the will to walk away.

Namibia - Native Ladies

These are some native ladies, that spend there time selling their bead work. They spread a mixture of red ground up clay and buffalo fat over their bodies and mat into their hard as a sun block. I have to admit that you will only get close once. But their skin is protected - hmmm!

Namibia - Fog Line

Posiden Exhales - that's what it looks like - Posiden breathing inhaling and exhaling each and everyday. It's really a little bit creepy when it come rolling in.

Namibian Sunsets from the Apartment

Almost every day we have been here - there has been a heavy fog that rolls in and then back out daily. In these photos you can see the fog close to the horizon. There has only been a few days where the fog was far enough out that the sunset was not effected. Warm sand - cool water makes a heavy fog. They say the water only change 2-4 degrees year round.
