Britt didn't want to play, but Taylor presuaded her to give in. I hope they never lose their playfulness and the ability to love one another.

Alberta - Edith Carvel - Angel Glacier - Part 1

This is the famous Edith Carvel where the glacier is in the shape of an angel. I think you can see it best when your there. We had to do a little hiking to get there, but it was well worth the effort. There is a lower portion and an upper portion of this glacier. We were told that the glaciers are unpredictable and could shift or break or crumble at anytime. We were also told not to approach the glacier - but no not my girls they had to go inside a cave that was formed at the base of the glacier - I must admit I was very scared - but they are old enough to make their own decisions. I must say I was very relieved when we all got out from underneath that huge block of ice.

Alberta - Icefields - Part 1

The massive part of this glacier is on the other side of that ridge. This is the first glacier that I have seen - I hope to see many more. The retreating "tongue" is melting some 20-30 feet per year. It is about 60 feet thick at the base, where we could see it. There is an excellent information center at this location and I highly recommend you stopping to take a look. There is no charge for this, but you can take a ride out on the glacier for a fee. We decided to pass on that one. Because we walk out on an different glacier later on.

Alberta - Rafting Athabasca River - Jasper

We just had to get wet in this gorgeous river. So we signed up for a rafting tour of the Athabasca River. It really was not all that wicked, only a Class II...... We wanted the run a Class III, but that river was too low to navigate. These rivers is made from glacial melting, needless to say it was very cold. Once we had a few large over the front waves that went down into your west suit you got a bit use to the cold. After a while we were encouraged to jump over and do a bit of swimming - which at first you had to say "hell no" - then you thought about it and realized your only go around once and you just might not make it back here again - so we all did it, jumped in the frigid waters and jumped out just as fast - but we all three went completely under and really had a blast.......you really must go rafting if even your give the chance.

Alberta - Tramway to the Top

We did not have enough time at the top - the wind was something else and it was cold - there are trails that go for a few miles up on the very top edge and we wanted to do hike them, but the last tram down was at 5:00pm - so we had to hurry to get in line and back down.

Alberta - Critters - Part 2

I jsut had to share a few more photos of the critters we saw along the road side. The ground hog (well I think that is what it is - let me know if you know different) was so cute and there were 20-30 of them - living in a colony - like our prairie dogs - cute little fellas. The grand bull elk was right on the shoulder of the road eating little yellow flowers. He was a magnificent speciman - it nice to know that he is out here breeding making others just like him in the spring. He definiently stopped traffic. These mountain goats were also right on the side of the road - they were chowing down on some minerals in the rocks - not bothered at all by the traffic.

We did not have to look too far for this incredible bull elk - he had the traffice standing still - he was magnificnet and he knew he was safe inside the Park grounds. It's just nice to know that his guy will be making some babies in the spring. The mulie was in the middle of town grazing on a ladies flowers. I suppose that is one of draw backs to living in at area. These mountain goats were working very hard on the minerals they found in those rocks right by the road as well.

Alberta - Critters - Part 1

We were priviledged to see a variety of critters - big and small - during our trip. We took a whole day to just drive the area north of Jasper looking for critters and taking in the scenery.
